I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Formula Season 5 Race 1
youliftyoulose, Tuesday, September 17 2013 - 06:44:51 // comment: 3

The first race of the 5thseason in the Formula Racing series took place at Westhill. The high powered FOX was the car designated for the opening race. A surprising large field of 27 drivers showed up for qualification. Half of the field drove their cars to within 1 second of pole sitter Mazdarati who put in a 1:34.01. A number of open wheel experts showed up for the race who were all threatening to give Mazdarati a run for his money. This series required the use of the softest tires for the entire race, in this case R1’s. While the tires had lasted the whole race under testing they were prone to overheating if pushed too much or in the worst case, as spin.

pmw has dents his helmet on the tarmac as he has his race end early.

Lambat almost hits the sign as he is launched into the air.

The top 3 are nose to tail as they take the final turn after 36 laps.

Dalda acknowledges his pit crew as he takes a hard fought victory.

The race started out smoothly enough until about halfway through the first lap. Mondbrot got his left side tires on the grass and then slid into the back of Alex, causing both cars to spin off the track. Mondbrot managed to avoid any hard contact but Alex was not as lucky hitting the steel guardrail hard. They both continued occupying the last two positions on the track. Alex decided to pit early and get his car repaired.

Bigger trouble lay further up the field. Jamo got on the brakes a bit late as he tried to slow down at the end of the back straight. While he managed to avoid LRK-racer and pmw he planted his right front into the side pod of Daniel. The contact slowed him up in a hurry which pmw was not prepared for. As Jamo slide sideways on the track, pmw rode up on his gearbox and promptly put his car on its side, ending his race early. Wheldon did a 360 with his car as he tried to avoid the wreck and fell back to P24. Mondrot, also coming up on the overturned pmw failed to make the corner and spend a long time getting his car out of the gravel.

Up at the front, Black (P2), was anxious to get by Mazdarati as he had fuelled his car for only half the race and would be making a pit stop at some point. If he wanted to have a good finish he would have to get into the lead and open up a considerable gap to the rest of the field. At the start of lap 3 he did just that as he drafted Mazdarati down the main straight and moved into P1. Could he use his extra pace to build up enough of a lead for his stop later in the race?

Two rookies (Kapal and Koreny) were having a great battle for 6th and 7th. They took turns drafting past each other down either straight. They remained together until lap 9 when Camoradi managed to get in between them. The pass seemed to break the concentration of Koreny as he lost control after the pass and slid off track. He was lucky as his car returned to the track at the end of its spin and was pointed in the right direction. Unfortunately his tires were way pass their normal operating temperature and would render his car un-driveable for the next several laps.

The race was going along smoothly until just before the halfway point. On lap 17 Lambat ran a bit wide and got his right tires on the grass sending him into a spin in the middle of the track. Jamo’s eyes were jarred from their sockets as he T-boned Lambat and sent him to the garage and retirement. Jamo limped his car back to the pits where his car was repaired and rejoined in last place.

As the race crossed halfway, the order at the front finally changed. While Black had managed to only eke out a small 3 second gap to Mazdarati, Dalda finally got close enough to make a bid for P2 and took the position at the end of lap 18.

Black headed for the pits on lap 20, giving the lead to Dalda. Black returned to the track in P6 just behind Bandes. The one pit stop strategy did not appear to be paying off.
On lap 21, Aid, who was in P10, missed the chicane and beached his car in the gravel, ending his race. A few turns later, rookie Mlgpha did the same and had to be towed back to the garage.

On lap 25 Mazdarati took advantage of Dalda struggling to get past a backmarker and moved back into P1. Mazdarati hung on to the lead for a few laps but Dalda was relentless and by lap 29 had managed to get the lead back. While Dalda and Mazdarati were fighting for the top spot Antti slowly made his way back into the mix and was all over the gearbox of Mazdarati. With only 4 laps to go Antti made good a pass for P2 relegating Mazdarati to the unfamiliar 3rd position.

The top 3 drivers seemed not to use their brakes in the final laps as they kept exchanging PB times and fastest laps of the race. As they entered the final turn of the last lap a blanket could be thrown over the top three cars. Dalda took the win and the fastest lap with Antti 2nd and Mazdarati 3rd.

Honorable mention goes to rookie Kapal as he came in a strong 4th.

See you next week at Aston Grand Touring.
