I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Hi, I am new here, and I have some questions.
Which near races are for S2 licence and how to join them?

Hi all !

I have a few "noob" questions to which I can´t seem to find answers on my own.

1. Is there a log file of some kind in LFS that I could go and see what changes I have made for my car tune and in which order. I got the info today on the game-chat that I can download ready-made tunings for the cars and managed to cock up my own work rather well in the process. Now I am looking for a way back to the values before I started to adapt the downloaded setup´s values into my own.

2. In general, how do you prevent the inside front wheel locking when breaking to a slow corner? I find it slower to break straight and then turn (even with power on) than just letting it lock-up in the end of braking.. or maybe my skills are not good enough for it..

3. Do you use all gears in the gearbox in slow tracks? I came to the conslusion that on FE1/MRT-combo 6th gear is not necessary, at least for my tuning.

4. In general again, how much fuel do you usually have onboard in race? only the needed amount? I found out that at least in FE1/MRT-combo more than half a tank (I ended up using 3/4-full) makes the car´s movements calm down significantly. I am wondering if this is a general notice or just happens to fit my driving style.

I would appreciate if you can shed some light into these questions.

(OFFTOPIC)

I just have to say that now with a bit over 100 laps online with other drivers.. wow.. makes all the difference from driving alone..

And all in all, after 700-and-a-bit laps online since signing in on this forum, I am impressed.. about people, about the web-page.. about everything really.. I am starting to fear of becoming addicted aswell..

Why didn´t I do this before?

Hi there Kajaus!

I'm glad to hear you like it here, hope you turn into one of the regulars around here

I'll try to answer your questions:

1. I'm afraid you can't 'redo' the last changes you made to your setup. Little tip: always make a copy of the original set, and then make the changes in the second one. If you screw up the settings you can always return to the original set
You mentioned the possibility of downloading sets. It's a good way to start with. You know the set is made for the track. But keep in mind that other people might have totally different driving styles so not all sets might fit you directly. You'll still need to make changes to it in many cases.

Here are some usefull setup sites:
http://www.setupgrid.net/
http://www.teaminferno.hu/

2. I think you can solve this problem two ways. First is setupwise: you can set the brake balance a bit more to the rear wheels. This way a bit less braking force goes to the front wheels and thus they won't lock this easy. Downside of this is that the rear wheels may lock easier. It is about finding the perfect setting. Also you can reduce the amount of brake power.
Second thing is your drivingstyle. When you turn in while braking the load of the car goes to the outside wheels. The inside wheel has less grip so that it locks easier. You can prevent this by braking a bit less when you turn in. It's all about feeling. (p.s. maybe a non-keyboard driver can explain this a bit better ).

3. On some combo's the final gear can be a bit redundant indeed. Remember, every time you change gears the car is 'powerless' for a while. So it can save a little time to leave the final gear out. But in general you want to use the whole range of gears to have the best power output of the engine at all times.

4. More fuel = more weight = slower acceleration = slower cornering speed = longer braking distance. If the car feels better / is faster with more fuel you should probably change the balance of your car somehow But on the other hand some setups make use of extra ballast to find a better balance. Maybe this accidently is the case with your FE1/MRT-combo setup It is all about feeling: if you feel comfortable with it you should stick with it.

So I hope I answered your questions, or maybe you even have more questions now. Don't hesitate to ask. There are many persons around here willing to help you out

Oh, and good luck next sunday!

You can check fuel consumption using /w f or /w fuel command in LFS while on track with car. (Using T button)

Mazda answered it all
I can just add, this was only a practice! Not a race itself Prepare for more to come!
Good luck!

Thank you for your answers.

To Mazdarati:

1. I was afraid of this.. I fear I will not have enough time to setup(I believe this is the proper term) my car for the 01-11 race.. There is so little time, I needed 600 laps for a small circuit, so I will need 1000 laps for a longer one..

And be certain, I will make backup-copies and more backup-copies after this cock-up.. I looked into the links and it seems that the setup I found via Google(that ruined my own setup made for XRR) was not even a proper one for this track/car(short gearing, crazy power-oversteer, too stiff comp. damping etc.).. I will try some of those ready-made setups the next time I have time to practise a bit.. Thanks for the links!

Are these setups made by us, fellow racers or LFS themselves? I don´t really catch the baseline of these files.. :/ I also fear my driving style is so weird that no ready setups can be found..

But all in all, I do not regret making a setup from scratch.. Now I know that pretty much all values have a realistic effect on the handling. It is good to know..

2. In essence I know exactly what you mean, but put into practise I do not know what to do.. I have fiddled with both brake balance and max. brake force but somehow I do not find a suitable compromise even.. Could insymmetrical front camber play big enough part in this? I use symmetrical camber. With my driving style this is quite a problem, and I would rather find a cure than change my style.. Like you wrote, it´s about what feels good and confident..

3. Bang on again. This "powerlessness" is even greater with non-NA engines since boost is lost aswell. It´s good to hear that I am not completely in the woods with this notice.

4. Indeed weight spoils everything really, but weirdly I managed to drive better with more weight. Maybe it is the positioning of the extra weight combined with the slightly slower reaction of the MRT that made it work for me. Or maybe it is all between my ears..

Thank you Mazdarati for your lengthy answer, you definately answered the issues at hand and you can be certain I will have more questions in the future if I get even half as thorough answers as from you today.

To Michalxo:

Thanks for the tip, I will use that in the future. Are there any more commands like this? Maybe a list of commands somewhere in the interwebs? Today I found the F9 tyre-temperature-thingie by accident..

I know today was only practice.. That is why I am so uncertain that I will be good and fast enough for the actual race in a few days.. Not enough time to make a ham-fist like me a proper driver in XRR.. That car is a handfull..

Nevertheless today was fun.. very fun.. even with the slowest car in the grid..

Hi all, i would have some "beginners" questions, too.

As i'm working on my setup for the upcoming s2 event (mrt at fe1) i'm just not sure if my set ist as good as it could get. Especially the total amount of damping and ride height is a point where i think i might not have very good settings. I do get the point of setting dampings relatively to each other to get a neutral handling though, and my car is actually pretty stable (considering it's the mrt). ( I use the Vehicle Handling and Performance Analyzer for this)
Is it a good aproach to look for critical damping? In a way that NO oscillation occures (this looks like too much damping)? or in a way that exactly ONE oscillation takes place?
Also, how would it be best to look for the lowest possible ride-height? (considering fe1 is a rather bumpy course) Use Replay Analyzer??

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this! (b)

Wow...I have been racing here for ages and I don't analyse my set up as much as that lol .

Maybe I should... ^o)

I'm sure some of the guys who know all about this stuff will offer advice.....oh and welcome
