I think you can join every race apart from the events which take place at the Rockingham track.

To join you just have to join the server on time. You can find the password for the server below this chatbox.

Good luck!

Exploding Tires at Aston North
youliftyoulose, Tuesday, December 10 2013 - 08:47:37 // comment: 0

Race 5 of the 5th season in the Formula Racing series took place at Aston North. The FO8 was the car designated for this race. Tires were destined to be a problem for the high powered car and some drivers were sure not to finish on the 4 tires they started the race on. A small field of 15 drivers took to the track to put in a qualifying time. Matiss took the pole with a 1:38.69 as the only driver to break 1:39.

Luca and Bandes tangle early in the race.

Matiss takes to the grass and gives up the lead and P2 to Mazdarati and Antti.

Mazdarati celebrates a hard fought win.

As they headed into T1 for the first time Matiss took a defensive position by taking the inside line giving Mazdarati the outside if he wanted it. All drivers made it through the first few turns with little drama as the race got underway.

Lambat failed to finish lap 1 cleanly as he found the grass in the downhill chicane and damaged his car. Luckily the pits were not far away as he pitted for repairs.

Things seemed to be going according to plan until lap 3 when leader Matiss ran wide onto the grass and watched Mazdarati and Antti move into 1st and 2nd. Luca and Bandes came together on the final turn on the same lap. The contact sent Luca sideways and he dropped several postions.

Meanwhile, Matiss had recovered from his early mistake and had got my Antti to move into P2. Antti, not will to concede easily returned the favour a few corners later and regained 2nd.

On lap 6 Mostafa tried to pass Xnyle at the end of the straight. Unfortunately both cars touched and Mostafa went off track and beached his car in the gravel. He managed to dig himself out just in time to see the leaders come by putting him a lap down.

As the race passed 25% distance the front 4 of Mazdarat, Antti, Mostafa and Dalda were slowly opening up a 10 second gap to the rest of the field.

Toberkel made an unforced error on lap 10 as he lost control and found the wall. The damage was great enough that he decided to pit at the end of the lap for repairs.

As the race approached half distance Dalda was struggling to keep pace with the front 3 as his front tires began to get over their optimum heat range. In the mid field, Bandes was also pushing very hard to stay in front of Xnyle, LRK-racer, Camoradi and Rony. The result was that his left front was taking a beating and he began to worry if it would last the entire race.

On lap 18 Luca got his left tires on the grass and went for a spin causing significant damage to his suspension, necessitating an unscheduled pit stop for repairs.

Lap 21 seemed like the lap of retirements. Dalda had a spin that sent him into the grass. Frustrated with his race he decided to retire. Luca made the same choice and went to the garage as well. A few seconds later LRK-racer also found the grass and decided that he had enough. With almost half the race remaining only 11 cars remained on the track.
As the race started the final 10 laps Antti and Matiss had slowly allowed Mazdarati to escape on them and while the front 3 positioning remained static, the battle seemed only for 2nd place. Antti settled the matter early as he found the same grass others had earlier in the race and spun into the wall damaging his left side suspension and basically conceding P2 to Matiss. The big question was would he be able to nurse his car home over the last 9 laps or would he have to stop for repairs? Looking at his pit board he saw his lead over 4th place Bandes around 30 seconds and decided to drive the car and deal with the damage.

With Bandes seeing the gap to Antti dropping rapidly he began to smell a chance of a podium finish and began to push even harder than he had earlier in the race. By the time 5 laps remained the gap had be almost cut in half and was around 16 seconds. If his tires would hold out there just might be enough time.

Going into the final 5 laps Camoradi (P7) made an error through the downhill chicane and severely damaged his suspension. He would have to pit for repairs if he wanted to finish the race.

As the field was now well spread out all that remained to be played out would be if any cars had any tire failures in the final laps.

An then on lap 34 it started to happen. Rony, who was right on Bandes’ gearbox saw his right front explode. He would have to pit for some new tires giving up any chance of a top finish. A few moments later Xnyle watched his left front give up as he came out of the final turn. Xnyle (P6) checked his pit board and saw he had a 30 second lead over Daniel with only 2 laps to go. Even though his pit crew was heard to be radioing “BOX, BOX”, Xnyle thought the big lead would be more than enough for him to hang on to his position. It was a calculation that proved to be wrong. At the end of lap 35, Daniel was right on top of his gearbox and the pass was easily made.

Mazdarati who had caught up to his teammate and was about to lap him, passed Xnyle, putting him a lap down and saving him completing the final lap. Daniel, still had to complete the 36th lap but was happy to do so as P6 was his.
Antti managed to hold off Bandes by more than 18 seconds hanging on the final podium spot. Mazdarati took the hard fought win and Matiss took 2nd.

See you next week Kyoto with the BF1
